Hour Sum was engineered to address a specific gap in time-tracking utilities: long-term project accrual. While most stopwatches focus on the immediate second or minute, professionals in fields like tax preparation, scientific research, and engineering often need to track hundreds of hours over several months.

Whether you are documenting the 200–300 hours required for Enrolled Agent (EA) exam prep or tracking consultancy hours for a technical project, Hour Sum provides a persistent, high-visibility interface.

How It Works

• Persistent State: The application uses localStorage to ensure your timer continues even if the browser is closed, the computer sleeps, or the system restarts.
• Decimal Hour Conversion: Professional billing and certification logs often require decimal formats (e.g., 1.50 hours). Hour Sum automatically converts your lapsed time into a standard two-decimal format for easy logging.
• Floating Display (PiP): Using the Picture-in-Picture API, you can "detach" the timer. This allows the clock to float over your study materials or tax software, keeping your progress visible without switching tabs.

The developer, an Atmospheric Scientist (Ph.D.) and technical consultant, built this utility following a successful season as an Intuit Tax Associate.
